This vintage Indian Dhokra elephant and rider stands 3.5 inches tall and weighs 5.3 ounces. It was crafted using the traditional lost-wax metal casting method by tribal artisans from the Bastar region of Central India. The elephant is hollow with built-in loops to secure the rider, a detachable mahout holding a stylized goad. The piece has possible original casting flaws on one ear of the elephant and the mahout’s hand holding the goad. Presence of rock-hard red ritual residue indicate historical use as a temple toy or votive object.

Condition: elephant missing right ear and mahout missing fingers of left hand; these appear to be casting flaws. Piece retains sindoor residue from puja rituals.
